2020 Summer Academy

One and two-week, half-day sessions for rising 4th-12th grade students July 6 - August 7, 2020

To ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, the following procedures will be followed for all classes:

  • Temperature checked before entering the building
  • Masks will be worn at all times in the building (provided by CTC)
  • Hands will be sanitized at regular intervals
  • Safe distancing will be practiced in and outside of classes
  • The building will be closed between noon and 1:00PM for cleaning
  • A maximum of 10 students in each class with no interaction with any other class

 Because of schedule uncertainty, reserve now and pay class fees on the first day of class

Acting Fundamentals
Learn the basics of acting through a variety of fun games and exercises. Students will learn how to use their bodies and voices to communicate the intentions and the circumstances of the character to the audience. This class is perfect for both true beginners and those who have some experience.

Acting The Script
Bring action to the words as we take the written script and make meaning out of it. this class will include audition techniques to help make a cold reading dynamic, monologue work, and partner scene study.

July 13-24

Play Writing
Learn techniques to take an idea from story to script.  In this hands-on course you will write your own play as you explore fundamental elements of play writing such as character development, theatrical styles, plot development, stage directions, and dialogue. the class will help each other prepare staged readings of each play.

Practice to Performance
Using the rehearsal process, students will work together to prepare a play for performance. They
will learn the skills required to develop characters, build an ensemble, and engage the audience.
Performances will be videoed on the last day of class and posted to our website.

The Play’s The Thing
Work with others to choose themes, improvise ideas and develop a play from concept to performance. The work will be filmed for online viewing.

Movement for Actors
Being an actor is not just about saying lines. What actors show is just as important as what they say. Learn to use your body to create characters and bring a play to life.

Five days of play with a purpose. Theatre games are used to teach the valuable skills of stage work such as team building, communication, and focus.
