Rising Kindergarten – 1st Grade

Creative Drama

Half Day 9:00 a.m. – Noon       June 3-7; July 8-12

 

Our classes for young children are designed to build on their active imaginations while guiding them towards an understanding of how to portray characters in a story. In class, we play age-appropriate theatre games, use our bodies to create animals and other characters, hear stories and act them out. The week culminates in a short presentation.

Rising 1st – 3rd Grades

Stories to Stage

Extended Day, 9:00AM – 3:00PM       $220 per week

Theatre is storytelling through action and word. Every story is an adventure, and every adventure has a story. Our classes allow young people to tell stories and act out adventures in a structured and nurturing environment.

 

June 10-14     Asian Adventures
Far in the East, where the sun rises, is a land of dragons, Jade Princesses, magical monkeys, and adventures waiting to happen.  

 

June 17-21     Sagas in Cyberspace
Come inside the computer world, where the games we play are the stories we tell.    

 

June 24-28     Picture to Performance
Make your own picture with paper, pen, and crayon, then act it out with friends and imagination.   

 

July 15-19      Princesses and Pirates
Sail the high seas to far away lands where princesses rule, and adventure waits.    

 

July 22-26      Magic Wings
Enter a world of dragons, flying horses and fairies. Adventures await when you have magic wings.    

 

July 29 -August 2      Animated Objects
If the objects that we use everyday could move and talk, what stories would they tell?    

 

 

Rising  4th – 6th Grades

Full Day, 9AM – 4PM

 

June 3-14        The Play’s the Thing

Work with others to choose themes, improvise ideas and develop a play from concept to performance. The class culminates in a presentation of work.

Two weeks $440      

 

June 17-28 Performance Workshop

This intensive workshop combines actor training that emphasizes physical and mental preparation with the practical experience of working on a short play from audition to performance.

Two weeks $440      

 

June 17-21 Acting Workshop

Take the first week of the Performance Workshop and skip the performance.

One week $250      

 

July 29-August 2     Film Making 101

Ever wanted to create your own movie? Join us for this one week intensive workshop where you will learn the basics of filmmaking by creating and acting in short movies. From storyboard to filming to editing, this class will offer students a well rounded introduction to the world of filmmaking. Students are encouraged to bring their own smart phones or video cameras, but some video recording technology will also be available.

One week $250     

 

 

Rising 7th – 12th Grades

Full Day 9:00AM – 4:00PM

June 3-14     Comedy

Learn what it takes to make funny happen on stage, then use those skills to develop short comic sketches. There will be a presentation of work on the last day of class.

Two weeks. $440

July 29- August 2      Classic Cinema

Every great movie director started as a great movie watcher. To hone the skills of a performing artist, you must have a visual vocabulary from which you can draw new work. Much of our visual vocabulary is found in the cinema of the past. This class will view selected cinema classics, work with scripts from movies, and discuss what made them great.

One Week $250      

 

July 8-26    Technical Theatre Workshop

Would you like to be involved in the making of a play but don’t want to be on stage? Consider trying this class that explores the many jobs and skills used behind the scenes. Learn the art of theatrical design, techniques used for painting and building scenery, how to create lighting and sound effects, and the coordination of costuming. This workshop runs in conjunction with the Musical Theatre Academy so there are practical applications of everything covered.

Performances on Friday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Admission to performances is $5. Each student will receive two complimentary tickets.

Three Weeks    $600       

 

Rising 9th-12th Grades

 

June 17-28      Director’s Performance Workshop

Directing students will work with trained instructors to learn the skills necessary to direct a play including devloping a concept,auditioning, working with actors, and staging. They will then put those skills to use by directing a short play which will be performed on the last day of class. (limited to five students.)

Two Week   $440    

 

June 17-21      One Week Director’s Workshop

Take the first week of Director’s Performance Workshop without directing a play.  (Limited to five students.)

One Week   $250     

 

Rising 4th-12th Grades

July 8 – 26    Musical Theatre Academy

 9:00AM – 4:00PM

 

Be a part of a world premiere, fully supported with scenery, costumes and lighting. Two new musicals, with music by Michael Huseman and book by Chuck Tuttle, will be workshopped, rehearsed, and performed on the last Thursday and Friday of the session.

Performances on Friday, July 26, at 10:30AM & 5:00 p.m.

Admission to the performances is $5. Each student will receive two complimentary tickets.

    Three Weeks                $600.00        

 

 

 

Are You Ready to

Dance

Choreographer Lindsay Fussell will teach jazz, tap, and theatre dance. For older students, she’ll throw in some hip-hop, salsa, and swing!

One Week, half-day sessions June 3 – 7

Before and After Care is available

Before care (Available for all Summer Academy students)

 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. $20 per week       

 

After care option 1 (Available for Stories to Stage students)

3:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. $30 per week     

 

After care option 2 (Available for rising grades 4-12)

4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. $20 per week
