Unpack Your Words with Heart: Embodying Shakespeare’s Language for Performers

This workshop is designed to be an introduction or refresher to embodying Shakespeare’s text. Participants will explore tools for understanding Shakespeare’s language including verse and rhetoric and applying them practically to rehearsal work and performance.

Dr. Lori Leigh works as a professional director, playwright, and dramaturg and has received several awards and nominations for her work in New Zealand and the United States. Lori’s Shakespearean directing includes Romeo and JulietThe Two Noble Kinsmen, The Winter's TaleTwelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, and The History of Cardenio by Gary Taylor. Lori has published chapters and articles on Shakespeare with Oxford University Press, Shakespeare, the journal of the British Shakespeare Association, and a full-length book with Palgrave McMillan titled Shakespeare and the Embodied Heroine. She has given workshops, seminars, and presentations  on Shakespeare and performance including at the Shakespeare Association of America and Shakespeare’s Globe Centre New Zealand. Lori  has a MFA from Sarah Lawrence College in Theatre and a PhD in Shakespeare from Victoria University of Wellington.
