Circle Lobby Refurbished

We have a brand new tile floor in the Circle Lobby! Richard Alexander of Alexander Tile donated the tile and the labor to make our lobby fresh and new.

Richard has done many tile jobs around town and we're so grateful for this very generous donation. It looks amazing! You can reach Richard at 423-343-5673.

This makes Richard our Facilities Sponsor for the 2008-2009 season. Thanks Richard!

Thanks also to Jason Kaylor of the Lee Highway Sherwin-Williams store for donating the paint to complete the refurbishing of our Circle Lobby.

Chattanooga Theatre Centre Receives $25,000 Gift from First Tennessee

First Tennessee Makes $25,000 Donation to the Chattanooga Theatre Centre.

Beau Newman, left, Manager of the North Chattanooga Financial Center of First Tennessee Bank, presents a check for $25,000 to the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. George Quick, producing director of the CTC, center, and Jo Coke, president of the Board of Directors, right, accept.

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre has received a gift of $25,000 from First Tennessee Bank.

The donation is in honor of the Theatre Centre’s 85th Anniversary and marks the kick off the 2008-2009 annual fund campaign.

The check was presented during a meeting of the CTC Board of Directors Tuesday (10/28/08) by Beau Newman, Manager of the First Tennessee North Chattanooga Financial Center. Jo Coke, President of the CTC Board of Directors and George Quick, Producing Director of the CTC, accepted.

According to Regional President Frank Schriner, “The Chattanooga Theatre Centre is an integral part of the arts community in Chattanooga. Besides offering season after season of entertaining and high-quality productions, the Theatre Centre provides education and enrichment opportunities for all ages. First Tennessee is proud to support these efforts.”

“First Tennessee has long been a supporter of the Chattanooga Theatre Centre,” said Quick. “A tight economy creates challenges for the arts, so we are especially honored and appreciative of this generous gift.”

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre, established in 1923 as The Little Theatre, this season is presenting six productions on the MainStage, four on the CircleStage, and five by the Youth Theatre. Next on the MainStage is A Christmas Carol (November 21 – December 19); the Youth Theatre will present Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr. (December 5 – 19). Theatre Centre announces changes, addition

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre has shuffled its 2008-09 schedule to make room for the return of a holiday tradition, Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” according to a news release.

The play will be presented Nov. 21 through Dec. 19 on the MainStage of the Theatre Centre.

To make room for “A Christmas Carol,” the Theatre Centre has rearranged the MainStage season. “Dearly Beloved” has been dropped from the lineup, and the theater will no longer open two shows on the same night. Also, there will be no productions during Riverbend, according to the plan announced by new producing director George Quick.

“We realized that the community calendar is full, and our schedule could be more in synch with community events,” Mr. Quick said.

Mr. Quick said he was surprised to learn the theater did not have an annual production of the holiday favorite.

“After getting to know the theater a bit more and taking a look around Chattanooga, I realized this, our 85th season, is the perfect time to revive this classic,” Mr. Quick explained.

“With all the exciting holiday celebrations and arts events downtown ... that make Chattanooga a winter destination, it occurred to me that it was time for the CTC to join in the fun,” Mr. Quick said.

The changes also will have an impact on CircleStage shows, which will now be presented on Friday and Saturday only. The move reflects the preference of the younger audiences who attend the edgier, more contemporary plays presented there, according to Mr. Quick. The Circle Series will feature four shows, with “Young Man From Atlanta” being dropped from the schedule.

“The changes on the Circle Stage enable us to focus on two Youth Theatre productions — “Tales of a 4th-Grade Nothing” and Disney’s “Alice In Wonderland” — for the rest of this calendar year,” Mr. Quick said.

Season tickets remain on sale through Dec. 19 for the entire MainStage season, which now includes “High School Musical,” which opens today and runs through Oct. 5, “A Christmas Carol,” “Doubt,” “Ring Round the Moon,” “Company,” “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Noises Off.”

Auditions for the large cast of “A Christmas Carol” will be held Oct. 5-6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Theatre Centre, 400 River St.
