Chattanooga Theatre Centre Classes

An Overview

If you have always longed to get up on that stage some day or find out just how they make those buildings look so real, then the classes at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre are just right for you. We offer classes for the novice as well as the seasoned. If you have plenty of theatre experience under your belt, but just want to fine tune your skills, join our other seasoned members in a class designed just for that purpose. On Stage or back stage, we offer classes in many of the theatre arts.

Adult Acting Classes

On-Line enrollment in classes use PayPal for collection of your credit card information. A convenience fee is added to the cost of the class and will show up as a "Shipping and Handling Fee" in PayPal. You DO NOT have to have a PayPal account to use the on-line payment option. If you do not wish to enroll on-line, fill out the form under the Registration Information Tab and send it to the CTC boxoffice.

Adult Acting classes are on Tuesdays from 7:30- 9:00 PM
Acting Class Tuition: $80 per session (12 hours)

Fundamentals of Acting

Spring Session - March 10 - April 28

All acting starts from inside the individual.
Using theatre exercises, this course will help students to communicate as an actor and feel more comfortable on stage.

Acting the Character

Holiday Session - October 28 - December 16
(no class November 25)

Once you have the fundamentals of acting, the next step is to develop interesting characters.
Learn to create dynamic characters from both the physical and mental process.

Acting The Script

Winter Session - January 6 - February 28

Whether in an audition or on stage, a good performance comes from a dynamic interpretation of the material. Learn to act the text of some of dramatic literature’s most challenging scenes.

Conditioning Through Ballet

The class incorporates the graceful movements and conditioning components of ballet to gain strength, flexibility, and balance.
No prior ballet experience needed. This class will also help increase range of motion and ease of movement for everyone.

Learn various techniques of jazz dance and more.

Intro to Tap for Adults

Always wanted to learn to tap dance, but afraid you couldn’t keep up?
Here’s a course for absolute beginners that goes through the basics of tap at your pace.

BEGINNING TEEN & ADULT TAP

Explore the 12 basics of tap in a fun atmosphere.

Expand your knowledge of tap. Students should have successfully completed beginning tap.

*Sizzle and shake* as you learn the basics of East Coast Swing. Each 45 minute Swing class is followed by a 45 minute Latin Dance class which covers Merengue and Tango, alternating each session with Salsa. 4 week sessions - $40 single/$70 couple per session, or Take both Swing and Latin Dance for $65 single/$11O couple

Our classes for young children build on their already active imaginations while guiding them towards an understanding of what it takes to act in a play. This process has three steps: the use of body, voice and imagination; the development of characters; and the understanding of how stories go together. Each session is designed to build on the previous session, but can also be taken alone.

Creating Animals

Explore the realm of the wild kingdom by creating animal characters from literature and the imagination.

For those serious students who complete Acting I and II, we offer a special class designed to help young actors better understand theatre. This course will rehearse a short play which will be performed as a curtain raiser for the Youth Theatre’s Spring production, BFG, on its first weekend.

Production Workshop

For Ages 8 to 18

Achieve better results from your Youth Theatre audition by attending our pre-audition Production Workshops. Read excerpts from the play, discuss the concepts and themes, and practice auditioning before the real thing.
